Janis Krempa, Co-Founder

Janis Krempa, M.Ed., BCBA, LBA is the CEO of Building Steps Forward, a virtual consulting practice building social & communication skills, self-advocacy, and executive function skills to support steps toward independence for young adults on the autism spectrum and their families. Janis has been a BCBA since 2003, but her experience working with children and their families began long before that- starting in 1996! Janis' experiences with early intervention through young adulthood and beyond has included direct services, leading social skills groups, conducting assessments, program evaluations, workshops, teacher, and supervising, but always with the priority of collaboration and partnership - with families, professionals, teachers, staff, and care providers. These collaborations have most informed her perspectives on both the evolution of the diagnosis of autism and the need for excellence in thoughtful and highly individualized treatment. In lectures and presentations, she continues to strive to "ask the right questions" to provide top-quality teaching, support, and collaboration.

She co-authored “Social Sills Solutions: A Hans-On Manual for Teaching Social Skills to Children with Autism” with Kelly McKinnon-Bermingham which has become a touchstone resource in teaching social skills to children with autism. Janis teaches CEU professional development courses at conferences and workshops in the US & France and is a board member of the North Carolina Association for Behavior Analysis.
